Change tire and/or tubeUpdated 11 days ago
Required Tools:
- Mounting lever (2 pieces)
- Tire mounting soap
- Compressor
- Optional: cable ties (3 pieces)
Begin by determining whether you need to change the front or rear tire. Refer to the relevant instructions for removing the wheel before proceeding. Place the motor on a stable surface or secure it in a clamp. Take care not to damage the axle or cable connections during this step.
- Lubricate the tire generously with appropriate tire soap.
- Deflate the tire completely.
- Squeeze the sides of the tire toward each other to break the bead of the tire loose from the rim.
- Carefully place the mounting lever on the tire.
- Pry the tire off the rim piece by piece, while holding the opposite side of the tire down into the middle groove of the wheel.
- Clean the inside of the rim if necessary.
- Lubricate the rim and the new tire again with tire soap.
- If assembling a tubed tire like the original VX5, place the tube inside the tire first.
- Put one edge of the the new tire back on the rim using the tire levers.
- Feed the valve stem through the wheel (tubed tires only).
- Pry the second edge of the tire onto the rim while holding the opposite edge of the tire in the center groove of the rim.
Tip: If you pull one half of the tire together with 3 cable ties, it will be easier to lever it onto the rim. - Pump up the tire with the compressor to about 3 bar (44 psi). Then let the air out of the tire if necessary.
- Remove all residual tire soap.
